You can now make use of this online service provided by the Immigration Department to make an appointment to give a notice of intended marriage ("notice"). This article will give you the details about using this online service.
You can use this online service if you intend to give notice in Hong Kong and register your marriage in Hong Kong:
If your notice is given through a civil celebrant of marriages, you need not use this booking service.
Using this online service, you can book, change, enquire about or cancel the date of the appointment to give a notice, and check the earliest booking date for your date of intended marriage, and the available capacity of the marriage registry on your date of intended marriage.
You should get ready the documents for inputting personal particulars of the marrying parties, including date of birth, Hong Kong identity card/travel document number and contact telephone number for making an appointment.
You can make one appointment either through the Internet or Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) (Tel: (852) 3102 3883) within the 14 days before a 3-month period preceding the date of marriage, e.g.:
| Date of marriage | Earliest date of giving notice (1st day of the 3-month period from the date of marriage) | Period during which an appointment can be booked through this service |
| 19/05/2008 | 19/02/2008 | 05/02/2008 - 18/02/2008 |
| 01/08/2008 | 02/05/2008 (since 01/05/2008 is a Public Holiday) | 18/04/2008 - 01/05/2008 |
The selectable dates of marriage are updated daily at 8 am.
You can select both the marriage registry and your date of intended marriage. The appointment of giving notice is given in accordance with the selected date of intended marriage at the specified registry on a first-come-first-served basis.
If the appointment is made successfully, the system will provide you with a date for giving notice. You are required to attend the selected marriage registry/office to give the notice. On the day you give the notice, you can select the exact time slot for your marriage ceremony according to the priority number given in the booking acknowledgement. If you failed to attend the appointment as scheduled, your booking for marriage registration and giving notice will be cancelled.
You can make use of this service if you intend to celebrate your marriage at a marriage registry when the 14-day booking period before the 3-month period preceding the date of marriage has lapsed, at a licensed place of worship, or by a civil celebrant of marriages.
You can make one appointment by selecting a registry/office for giving notice on a day within 12 working days starting from the next working day from the date when you make the appointment. If your intended marriage is to be celebrated in a marriage registry, you can select the date and time of your marriage on the date of giving of notice subject to the availability of marriage quota of the registry.
Please note that the marrying parties may, subject to the relevant provision of the Marriage Ordinance, contract a marriage only after a notice has been exhibited in the marriage registry for 15 clear days and the issue of a Certificate of Registrar of Marriages. After a notice is given, the marriage must take place within a period of 3 months, otherwise the notice becomes void and fresh notice must be given before the marriage can take place.
You should have the personal particulars of the marrying persons and your enquiry code ready when you change, cancel or enquire about your appointment.
You can only change or cancel your booking at least one day before the appointment day. After confirming the change/cancellation, your original appointment will be deleted.
Online appointment booking is free of charge. You are required to pay for a fee for filing and exhibition of notice on date of appointment and for marriage solemnization on date of marriage.
If you need assistance in using the online service, you can call the Immigration e-Services Hotline at (852) 3128 8668 between 7 am and 11 pm daily.
